CWNP (Certified Wireless Network Professional) has released the Official CWNP Dictionary of Wireless Terms & Acronyms. The CWNP Dictionary contains more than 1000 definitions, and is authored by two CWNEs. The CWNP Dictionary is both a fundamental learning tool, as well as a useful reference guide, that bridges the gap between ’standards speak’ and practical language in the wireless world. CWNP worked with two Cisco Systems wireless experts to create the dictionary. The authors are Joel Barrett, a senior-level wireless networking expert; and Vinay Saini, a software/QA engineer.
Cisco Systems Inc. has unveiled Cisco Motion, a new open wireless networking initiative that aims to bring advanced mobility services to its customers. Cisco Motion and its accompanying Partner Motion channel program are built around a new product, Cisco’s 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine (MSE). The appliance, which sits on a controller-based wireless LAN, provides software-based services such as wireless asset tracking, wireless intrusion prevention, security management and seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
Intel joined Taiwanese mobile phone service provider Chunghwa Telecom to launch Giga-byte Technology’s Atom-powered M528 mobile Internet device. Chunghwa will begin offering the small, handheld device to consumers in December for NT$12,900 (US$386) with a 2-year service package. The devices will cost NT$19,500 without a service plan. The device, which runs a Linux OS, sports a 4.8-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keypad and 4G byte solid state drive (SSD), is just one of few launched so far with an 800Mhz Intel Atom Z500 microprocessor inside.

The convenience store chain 7-Eleven Inc. is taking its prepaid wireless program global with the launch of its 7-Connect program in Singapore. Through the 7-Connect program, Singapore consumers will have access to a wireless product that offers free nights and weekends and wireless rates as low as 8 cents per minute for a monthly fee of $30. 7-Eleven has successfully launched a similar program in the U.S. and Canada.
